Frequently asked questions
What is Web Change Monitor?
Web Change Monitor is a free tool that watches any webpage and notifies you the moment it changes — by email, Slack, Discord, or webhook. No coding, no browser extension, and nothing to install.
How does website change monitoring work?
You add a URL and choose how often to check it, from every 15 minutes to once a day. We fetch the page in the background on that schedule and compare it to the last version we saw. If anything changed, you get an email showing exactly what changed.
Can I track just one part of a page, like a price?
Yes. Use the visual element picker to click the exact part of the page you care about — a price, a stock badge, a headline — instead of the whole page. That way you’re not notified about unrelated changes, like a rotating banner or a "last updated" timestamp.
What can I use this for?
Common uses include competitor price tracking, job posting alerts, product restock notifications, exam or application result pages, terms-of-service and policy changes, real estate listings, ticket availability, blog or news updates on sites without RSS, and uptime monitoring to know the moment a site goes down.
How will I be notified when something changes?
By email by default — and you can also connect Slack, Discord, or any custom webhook from your account settings, then choose per monitor which channels to use. Every notification shows what changed — removed text struck through, new text highlighted — so most of the time you won’t even need to open the dashboard.
Is Web Change Monitor free?
Yes. You can monitor up to 5 URLs at no cost, with no credit card required.
Does it work on sites built with JavaScript, like React or Vue apps?
Yes. Web Change Monitor automatically detects when a page needs JavaScript to render its content and loads it like a real browser would before checking for changes.
Do I need to install a browser extension?
No. Everything runs in the cloud on our servers — just sign in, paste a URL, and you’re done.
Is my monitored data private?
Yes. You sign in with your Google account, and the URLs you track are private to your account only.
How often can a page be checked?
You choose the frequency per URL: every 15 minutes, every 30 minutes, hourly, every 6 hours, or daily.
What is uptime monitoring mode?
Instead of tracking a page’s content, uptime mode just checks that a site is reachable — and alerts you the moment it goes down, then again when it recovers. Choose it when you add a monitor by clicking "+ Add monitor" and selecting "Uptime (up/down)" instead of "Content changes." The mode is set once at creation and can’t be switched later, since the two track completely different histories.
How does uptime monitoring detect downtime?
On your chosen schedule, we try to load the page. A single failed check doesn’t trigger an alert — we wait for two failures in a row to rule out a brief network blip — but we only need one successful check to confirm it’s back up, so recovery is reported as fast as possible.
