Tips for tracking legal and policy pages
Use the element picker to track only the policy text, so a cookie banner, footer or rotating promotion doesn’t trigger alerts.
Daily checks are usually enough for legal pages: they rarely change more than once a day, and daily checks are included in the free plan.
Keep the alerts: each one shows the exact text that was added and removed, which gives you a dated record of what the terms said before.
If only the “last updated” date changed, the diff shows it, so you can tell a cosmetic edit from a real change at a glance.
Questions
Can I get notified automatically when a terms of service page changes?
Yes. Add the terms of service or privacy policy URL as a monitor and Web Change Monitor checks it on your schedule. When the text changes you get an email (or a Slack, Discord or webhook message) showing what was added and removed.
Will I see exactly what changed in the policy?
Yes. Every alert includes a before-and-after diff of the text, highlighting the words that were added or removed, and 12 months of history stays in your dashboard (30 days on the Free plan). You don’t have to compare two long legal documents by eye.
Will a new date, banner or cookie notice trigger an alert?
Only if it’s inside the part of the page you track. Use the visual element picker to select just the policy body, and changes elsewhere on the page are ignored.
Can I watch the policies of several vendors at once?
Yes, each page is its own monitor. The free plan includes 5 monitors, Starter 10 and Pro 25.
How does website change monitoring work?
You add a URL and choose how often to check it, from once a day up to every 15 minutes depending on your plan. We fetch the page in the background on that schedule and compare it to the last version we saw. If anything changed, you get an email showing exactly what changed.
Can I track just one part of a page, like a price?
Yes. Use the visual element picker to click the exact part of the page you care about — a price, a stock badge, a headline — instead of the whole page. That way you’re not notified about unrelated changes, like a rotating banner or a "last updated" timestamp.
How will I be notified when something changes?
By email by default — and you can also connect Slack, Discord, or any custom webhook from your account settings, then choose per monitor which channels to use. Every notification shows what changed — removed text struck through, new text highlighted — so most of the time you won’t even need to open the dashboard.
How often can a page be checked?
It depends on your plan, and you choose the frequency per monitor. Free: every 6 hours or daily. Starter: as often as hourly. Pro: as often as every 15 minutes.
Is Web Change Monitor free?
There is a free plan with no credit card required: 5 monitors, checked every 6 hours or daily (1 of them can be a dynamic, JavaScript-rendered page).
